This is hands-down the coolest Madness collar I've ever seen. I honestly don't even know where to begin with this review. I loved how the collab followed a theme- for one thing. Each animator did a terrific job, in fact, there wasn't really a dull moment in this for me at all. Each part kept my heart racing and adrenaline flowing. I have to give extreme props to the sound design in this. The sound effects were gritty, gruesome, and super clear. The music was spot-on kick-ass. Was it intentional that the music actually synced up extremely well with some of the parts? Either way, awesome effect. I've been out of the loop for a while, but what are the creatures from? I recognized some sound effects from L4D in there, but that's it really.
Anyway, this is fantastic. You all did a great job!
*cough* thinkin' of a sequel? *cough*

SentryTurbo responds:

as the editor of the collab, i can confirm that the music synced up well with the parts by intention.

a sequel would take an extra 2 years ;)

I kinda figured that there would at least be one idiot in the review section below that would say little to nothing about the actual animation and focus on the politics behind it. Just to get this out of the way, Mr. "The Klown," less than two seconds into a web search would prove your ass wrong- the creators dislike both political parties, although it can be inferred that they're slightly less partial to far-left liberalism. That requires brain cells and the ability to read and infer information though so I can see where there may have been some difficulty.
Okay anyway, to the actual review:
Honestly, this wasn't that good. I can see what you were trying to go for here, but it just didn't really work out. The art style adds a dash of comedic value to this situation, but all-in-all it feels just like an animated version of the actual interview in which not much is really changed aside from some up-beat background music and extended cuts to his facial expression. I feel like there was potential for a punch line or at least something to expand upon this idea. The simplistic art style and animation could be excused if the comedy had been expanded or explored upon, but unfortunately for me, this one just didn't work out. Additionally, this short felt longer than just two minutes. With all due respect, it was over-all boring.
However, don't get me wrong. I think that you're definitely on the right track. While there are gaps in the pacing, delivery, and content, I could potentially see this working out as part of something a bit bigger. Stand-alone.. not so much. As horrible as it would be in real life, I think it would have been funny to see the politician at home going absolutely insane because his kids came out to him. Perhaps some kind of expansion or twist where his gay son turns out to be the best swimmer ever, or anything really. His drawn out, almost orgasmic facial expressions towards the end did give me a smirk, but that was about it this time around..
Keep going, don't be afraid to go out of the box a little bit and break some boundaries.

Thanks for your input. :)

One of your most stylistic and ambitious projects yet, this is intense. I absolutely LOVED how much fun you got to have with the crumbling of reality in this one. The attention to detail in every scene is remarkable. I will say that the ending was a bit sudden and I had to watch it a few times to figure out exactly what happened, but aside from that, this ended up being an awesome, almost cinematic experience.

Good effort on the music and composition, as I read you were unable to keep the old one up. The title and description of this was very vague and not too convincing. It was apparent that this is a showreel of sorts. I think gradually your animation capabilities showed improvement throughout, and I hope to see this talent applied to future animations, as you definitely have a lot of potential here. Some of those movements and more specifically character body movements, were pretty impressive! Definitely keep at it, but next time I would suggest titling this as a showreel, or an animation-reel if you will, you would be able to attract more criticism and attention possibly. Keep at the anatomy and drawing, and definitely some of those more interesting parts of this.

thanks man

It's been a while since I've actually watched a movie off of the front page of Newgrounds that really struck me as yours did.. You did an excellent job. The poem was very clever in how it was written and narrated. It kept me captivated in the story, and the story itself also somewhat spoke to me in interesting ways. I really enjoyed the personification of emotion into beautifully illustrated settings of comical representation. Very well done there as well!

JarrodElvin responds:

Thank you very much for your kind review! That really means a lot to me that you take the time to watch and also write such a thoughtful comment. I'm glad you liked the poem and the artwork as well as the story. I think it's something we can all relate to at times, and the imagery just sets it into extreme examples of those metaphors. Thank you.

Though it does seem like a lot of these were jokes I've heard before recycled, the voice acting and animation were pretty good. However, the random broken and inconsistent background noise started to really bug me towards the end, definitely taking away from the movie.

Heh that was pretty fun. I'm sure many of us have dreamed of making a video like this. I know I had plenty of fun playing with these toys. Great editing and sound!

Pretty good parody, I haven't seen an animation like this in a while. I really admire how much effort was put into not only tributing the game, but also the cartoon series. Bonus points for making a song to go along with it.

Hehe, great cartoon. I love how you flipped around chronology and tied things together pretty nicely. Great animation too. Good to see animations like these.

That was really fucking cool.

To be honest, the only things I didn't really like about this movie was how some cliches of other Madness tributes were present. Those cliches I'm referring to would be the whole 'standing around waiting to die' and 'hearing gunshots in the other room but just standing with your back turned to the door.'

However, the movie was so beautiful in every other regard that those cliches are insignificant. I absolutely loved the scene with the first giant tearing down walls. I thought that was really nicely done and a pretty great sequence. I also loved the corpse-centipede thing or whatever it was. How it dove in and out of the ground reminded me of a few of my favorite Zelda bosses.

I also really liked how you incorporated FBF scenes.

Really great movie.

Coft responds:

Yep, those cliches you're talking about are nearly everywhere, I've never really thought about avoiding them, without them it's a completelly different level of movie writing, something still far beyond me.
The juggernaut scene was a cool idea in the beginning, but... I though it's one of the most screwed-up scenes, IMO the execution could be far better, so I'm surprised you liked it.
Thanks LLL
